Instructions for RightsLink

Before using RightsLink, be sure to read all of the information on this page.

Before requesting permission for the use of any material, check to be sure the image is not credited to a source other than ACS. The credit may be given in the figure/table/chart caption or in the reference section. ACS cannot grant permission for material for which it does not own copyright.

From the ACS Publications Web site pubs.acs.org, navigate to your desired content via the Journal A–Z list, from the Advanced Search interface, or by going directly to the article's abstract using the journal's Table of Contents or Browse by Issue Search or Citation Search widgets, found on each ACS Journal Home page. From the article's Abstract or Full Text HTML page, click on the Rights & Permissions link in the Article Tools column—located directly to the right of the bibliographic information (title, author, affiliation). A new window will open to display RightsLink information. In the dropdown menu, select the appropriate reuse option for the ACS content and provide any additional order details. Create an account, if you have not already done so. Accept the terms and conditions to complete the process.

You will receive from RightsLink an e-mail message providing you with an order confirmation and license details. If your order did not incur a fee, you will receive a briefly worded permission. If your order incurred a fee, you will receive a longer "Terms & Conditions" permission. In either case, send the permission you receive to your publisher.

You should also contact them if you misplace your license, or you may use your RightsLink account (created during the order process) to access RightsLink MyAccount (myaccount.copyright.com) and view your license(s).
